THE construction of the flood control structure in barangay Iponan alms to mitigate the recurring flooding experienced in the area, particularly during periods of continuous rainfall and typheons.
For years, the residents of barangay Iponan and nearby communities have faced property damage, livelihood disruptions and safety risks due to flooding.
This project serves as a vital intervention to protect the community and ensure long-term flood resilience.
The flood control project, located in barangay Iponan, Cagayan de Oro City, has a total length of 563 meters and inciudes a 2.25-meter-wide Portland Cement Concrete Pavement (PCCP) walkway.
It also features 0.91-meter-diameter Reinforced Concrete Pipe Culvert (RCPC) cross-drain structures and wheel guards for added protection.
The structure is built with stone masonry and concrete facing on both sides, ensuring durability and stability against strong water currents.
This project was implemented through the initiative of Congressman Atty. Lordan Suan, whose leadership and commitment to public service have made this important
infrastructure possible.
The flood control initiative consists of four contracts with a total project cost of P205 million.
These contracts encompass multiple phases of construction, all aimed at effectively addressing the long-standing flooding problem in barangay Iponan.
This flood control structure will significantiy reduce the risk of flooding in barangay Iponan and its neighboring areas.
It will enhance community safety, strengthen disaster resilience and support sustainable economic growth.
