Phinma COC criminology interns complete on the job training

THE journey from classroom learning to real-world application reached a significant milestone as criminology interns from PHINMA Cagayan de Oro College School of Criminology and Criminal Justice successfully completed their on-the-job training (OJT), marking a pivotal moment in their academic and professional development.

During the completion ceremony held April 20 at Limketkai Atrium in Cagayan de Oro City, dean Gerry Cano congratulated the 1,322 completers.

“Life will give us a lot of problems. But all of these things will come to pass,” Cano said as he proceeded telling the inspiring story of inventor Thomas Edison who was able to overcome deafness and become one of the most influential scientists in history.

The rite was also attended by Misamis Oriental provincial police director PCol. Al Abanales who personally handed out leadership awards to 95 recipients, service awards to 11 interns, eight program outcomes audit awards to eight achievers and 12 top performing students.

Internships serve as a crucial component of criminology education, providing students with hands-on exposure to the realities of law enforcement, investigation, and public safety. Through structured programs and institutional partnerships, students are given the opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge in real-life settings—bridging the gap between classroom instruction and fieldwork.

For PHINMA COC criminology interns, this experience was further strengthened through collaboration with agencies such as the Philippine National Police Police Regional Office 10, where students were immersed in actual police operations and community-based initiatives.

This partnership enables interns to develop not only technical competencies but also discipline, professionalism, and a deeper sense of responsibility in serving the public.

Throughout their internship, students engaged in various activities including observation of police procedures, assistance in administrative and investigative tasks, and participation in community outreach programs.

These experiences allowed them to gain practical insights into criminal justice processes while strengthening essential skills such as communication, teamwork, and ethical decision-making.

More importantly, the completion of this internship symbolizes more than just an academic requirement fulfilled—it represents growth.

As PHINMA Education continues to produce graduates with strong performance in criminology licensure examinations and professional practice, the completion of internship programs stands as a testament to its commitment to quality education and career readiness.
