Opol’s new sanitary landfill to open this month

THE new sanitary landfill of Opol, Misamis Oriental is set to open this month.

This was one of the developments announced by Mayor Jayfrancis Bago during his yearly state of the municipality address held August 31 at Taboc gym.

The new sanitary landfill is expected to receive as many as 15 tons of already segregated garbage from the 14 barangays of the town.

The P100 million project located in barangay Bagocboc is composed of a sanitary landfill cell, composting bed, hazardouse waste vault, leachate treatment pond and plant, materials recovery facility, wash bay and access road.

It began construction in July 2025.

The sanitary landfill is just one of the environment-friendly projects being pushed by Bago during his two-hour speech.

Another green project expected to get underway is the sewerage treatment as part of Opol public market’s expansion and rehabilitation.

In fact, two pillars of his whole address are anchored on Build Green and Protect Nature.

Without fanfare, the Opol municipal government even initiated the solar energization of its legislative building earlier this year.

“We build with risk in mind. We build for safety. We build for the next generation,” Bago said.
