THE Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Misamis Oriental is expected to override the veto of Governor Juliette Uy this Monday, March 16.
This, after the committee on finance led by board member Rommel Maslog failed to convince the local finance committee to meet with them to reconcile the governor’s proposal, the 2026 budget that they approved earlier and the veto.
It was learned that the allocations for eight departments were vetoed by Uy.
Uy earlier recommended a P4.495 billion budget for this year, itself a lesser one than the P5.8 billion that was used in 2025.
But the provincial board slashed it even further to P3.3 billion.
Maslog strongly stood his ground, saying that provincial officials have failed to produce key documents to justify a supposed increase in the budgeting – 2025 fund utilization, total excise tax collections, receipts from local fund sources and quarry income all from the same period.
The members of the local finance committee – provincial treasurer, provincial budget officer and provincial accountant – collectively informed the Sanggunian Panlalawigan that they could not make it to the March 3 hearing of the board’s committee on finance because of a scheduling conflict.
With this, the legislators decided to override the budget during their next session which will occur on Monday.
