These were the remarks made by Councilor Maximo Rodriguez III during the October 6 kickoff of the Consumer Welfare Month for Cagayan de Oro City and Misamis Oriental.
The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) 10 kicked off the month-long observance with a press conference Monday at Dynasty Court Hotel.
Loraine Brillantes, chief of the regional Consumer Protection Division, shared that this event aims to launch programs for Cagayan de Oro and Misamis Oriental — and to rally support from the city government, partner agencies, businesses, schools, market sectors and the media.
DTI Misamis Oriental Provincial Director Jesusa M. Abear underscores the importance of this celebration under Presidential Proclamation No. 1098 — a time to champion consumer rights, encourage fair business practices, and promote market transparency.
Atty. Jose Edgardo Y. Uy, co-chairman of the CDO City Price Coordinating Council, highlights the local government’s commitment to protect consumers with the creation of a dedicated Committee on Consumer Protection—separate from the Committee on Trade and Commerce—to better safeguard consumers while also promoting responsible business practices.
With the theme Bida ang Konsyumer sa Bagong Pilipinas, expect a month filled with consumer education, business compliance support, recognition of best practices and stronger partnerships.
