City Tourism Week opens

THE Cagayan de Oro City government, through the City Tourism and Cultural Affairs Office, holds the Tourism Week 2025, October 6 to 10 at Limketkai Center, to promote the destination, showcase local culture and heritage, boost the economy through tourism, foster partnerships and highlight sustainable tourism practices.

In her opening message, Vice Mayor Jocelyn Rodriguez exhorted the attendees present to continue spreading the word of visiting Cagayan de Oro City.

“In fact, I always tell anybody from Manila, from the different cities of Mindanao up to Cagayan – it is a very safe place to go, a very safe place to take and a very safe place to tour around,” Rodriguez said.

Councilor Joyleen Mercedes Balaba, the committee on tourism chair, said on her part that Cagayan de Oro is more than just a tourism destination, it is an experience.

“It is the laughter that fills the streets, the warmth of our people and the adventure that flows with our rivers,” Balaba said.

And lastly, Department of Tourism (DOT) 10 director Marie Elaine Unchuan said that Cagayan de Oro’s tourism role is relevant due to being its gateway to the island.

“People will come here for business, for pleasure like for white water rafting and for the food. And there are so many things to love about Cagayan de Oro,” Unchuan said.

During the weeklong exhibit, there will be showcases from key tourism stakeholders such as barangay Lumbia, VjANDEP, the Cagayan de Oro Travel and Tours Association, the Cagayan de Oro Hotels and Restaurants Association and the Oro Photographic Society.
