One Kagayan goes hyperlocal

FIFTEEN thousand organized forces attended the Proclamation Rally of the One Kagayan Coalition #KaubanAngKayawhan on March 28, 205.

The supporters of the local administration slate occupied more than half of the 2.5 kilometer, four-lane Rio De Oro Boulevard starting from around 4 o’clock in the afternoon to 10 in thd evening.

It was a night of celebration of the unity of two dominant politicals groups in the city – the Uys of the 1st district and the Rodriguezes of the 2nd district.

Mayor Klarex Uy and undisputed 2nd district Cong. Rufus Rodriguez highlighted the event. Mayor Klarex Uy reaffirmed his gobyernong duol sa katawhan brand, promising more services to the people. He shared how he managed the City Hall despite the bad financial situation when he took office in June 2022 — with only P103M left in the coffers of the multi- billionaire highly urbanized city, P2.9 billion in unpaid obligations to suppliers and contractors, and over P1 billion unfinished infrastructure projects.

Amid the dire financial situation, Mayor Uy invested heavily in human development. He increased the number of city scholars from 8,000 to 15,000, created the City College, and City Education Devt. Office. Mayor Uy upgraded the city government-owned JRBorja General Hospital from level 1 to level 2, and directly served the needs of hundreds of thousands of his constituents through the People’s Day, Klarex nga Serbisyo sa Baryo and Suroy-Suroy sa Baryo.

Cong. Rufus Rodriguez outlined his plan of building modern infra projects for the city like the CDO-Laguindingan Airport railway system, and the light railway system around the city. He also vowed to continue securing funds for major road projects like the Gusa to Puerto coastal road and the Sayre Highway to Laguindingan mountain highway.

Former Vice Mayor Kikang “KapKik” Uy sounded ready for congressional duties with a stirring speech outlining is pro-poor legislative agenda. One that would bring more livelihood projects for the poor and the marginalized.

Vice Mayor Jocelyn “Bebot” Rodriguez opened the proclamation rally with an inspiring speech on how she and Mayor Klarex Uy teamed up to make economic recovery possible and how she unified the City Council, and committed to serve better if given a 16-0 win.

Former Abante Mindanao (Abamin) congressman Maxie Rodriguez (1st nominee) and Iligan City Councilor Queenie Belmonte (2nd nominee) also took the stage to pitch for 105 Abamin party list.

Sixteen candidates for the City Council (8 per district) took the stage with speeches, songs and dances.

Local singers serenaded the candidates, highlighted by the rendition of Yeng Constantino’s Hawak Kamay, with the thousands in chorus while holding hands up in the air — in expression of the strong solidarity of One Kagayan, kauban ang katawhan! (BCY)
