The Mindanao Federation of Transport Cooperatives (MFTC) is bucking the trend, announcing it won’t join the transport strike on Monday, March 23, 2026, despite calls from other groups to protest rising fuel prices. MFTC President Melvin Erederos cited concerns that the strike might harm the riding public, drivers, and operators alike.
With almost 5,000 transport units across Mindanao, MFTC believes dialogue and discussion with stakeholders are the way to go. The federation also supports President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s suspension of fare increases and thanks the President and DOTr for assistance and fuel subsidies.

Other transport groups, however, are pushing ahead with the strike, citing unsustainable fuel costs. NOMFEDTRASCO announced it’ll join the strike, warning of disrupted services.
The MFTC’s decision highlights divisions within the transport sector. With commuters already feeling the pinch, the move might ease travel woes for some.
The government’s next steps on fuel prices and transport relief are being closely watched.
