LSU-Ozamiz sets R&D direction through DOST 10-led workshop

OZAMIZ CITY — More than 60 faculty and staff of La Salle University–Ozamiz (LSU-Ozamiz) actively participated in a two-day Research and Development (R&D) Agenda Workshop on May 7–8, 2025 to collaboratively shape the university’s research priorities for 2025–2030.

Led by the Department of Science and Technology Region 10 (DOST 10), the workshop ensured that LSU’s research priorities are not only based on internal capabilities and aligned with national goals, but also grounded in the needs of local government units (LGUs) and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

Dr. Carl John Salaan of MSU-IIT emphasized the critical role of research and innovation in strengthening regional competitiveness, institutional growth, and professional development.

EnP William Valles Jr. from the Misamis Occidental Provincial Planning Office anchored discussions on the province’s development plan, while DTI Provincial Director Luz G. Galda shared insights on local industry needs.

MSMEs such as D’Hermanos Pizza, Mommy G’s Café, and Francisca Food Products were also present and shared their business and production needs—offering real-world challenges that LSU’s research initiatives can help address.

The participants attended sessions on stakeholder mapping, identified key research areas, aligning research with regional and national priorities, analyzing R&D supply and demand, identifying key research areas and actors, roadmapping, and setting of performance indicators.

LSU Chancellor Dr. Wenny M. Caseros expressed her appreciation for the collaboration.

“We are deeply grateful to DOST-X for their support and guidance. Their commitment has been crucial in positioning LSU at the heart of the RDI ecosystem. We look forward to growing together with DOST-X, ensuring our R&D efforts continue to thrive and contribute to the progress of Misamis Occidental and beyond,” she added.

With triple-helix insights from government, industry, and academe, LSU-Ozamiz now moves forward with a strategic, demand-driven research agenda designed to deliver real community impact over the next five years. (Rubie Fernandez, DOST 10)
