Gov. Unabia’s ‘Kapihan sa Lapyahan’ for Fisherfolk and Farmers in MisOr

Villanueva, Misamis Oriental – The Provincial Government of Misamis Oriental, under the leadership of Governor Peter “Sr. Pedro” M. Unabia, recently initiated the “Kapihan sa Lapyahan” in Barangay Looc, Villanueva, providing a platform for fisherfolk and farmers to voice their concerns and seek assistance for their livelihoods.

Fisherfolk raised concerns about the need for assistance, particularly in the form of gasoline support for their bangka operations and aid in maintaining seaside borders and relocation sites. Meanwhile, farmers expressed issues regarding access to fertilizers and concerns about land borders.

During the gathering, plans were discussed to conduct an assessment of the area to verify the legality of land borders, ensuring farmers to have secure and rightful access to their land. Additionally, efforts were made to address community needs through the Provincial Micro-finance Unit’s Livelihood for Economic Recovery and Acceleration Program (PMU-LEAP). Steps were also taken to facilitate the application process for assistance programs, enabling residents of Barangay Looc, Villanueva to access essential support services.

Aligned with the Governor’s Paglaum Strategic Agenda, the event served as a vital opportunity for community members to engage with relevant stakeholders and advocate for their needs.

Through collaborative efforts and proactive initiatives, efforts were made to address the immediate concerns of fisherfolk and farmers while also working towards sustainable solutions to support their livelihoods in the province and enhance their overall well-being. (by Gerry Lee Gorit)
