CITY COUNCILORS Paolo Nicolo Gaane and Max Rodriguez III are all praises to the barangay mental health focal persons for their role to individuals struggling with mental health conditions.
In his speech during the comprehensive mental health training and orientation session hosted by the City Social Welfare and Development Department (CSWD), Gaane said mental health work can be quite challenging as the efforts often go unnoticed.
“No one sees you when you sit beside a neighbor who is breaking down. No one applauds when you gently explain to a family that their loved one needs professional help”, he stressed.
As vice-chair of the City Mental Health Board, he vowed to empower the barangay to have its own “champions” of mental wellness.
Councilor Gaane also emphasized that the City Council remains supportive to strengthen the system by equipping barangay mental health focal persons with the tools to promote improved mental wellness among vulnerable individuals.
“Mental health is not a luxury. It is not something we address only during crises. It is everyday work, done by everyday people—people like you. Sa inyong mga kamay—rests the mental wellness of our barangays. Dili nato kini pasagdan. And you will not stand alone,” he concluded.
The training was also joined by Councilor Jonjon Rodriguez , Ms. Anacia Tongson and Ms. Rio Rosal Baliling of the City Social Welfare and Development Office. (JBD/SP)
