Dahino shares feats, ongoing programs for women, children

City Councilor Des Dahino shared the legislative milestones of the committee on women and family relations and program-driven efforts to strengthen protection mechanisms for women and children.

Among the initiatives are proposed amendments to the Solo Parent Ordinance, strengthened implementation of Anti-Bastos measures, and intensified actions to address human trafficking and violence against women and children (VAWC).

The committee has also initiated programs for children with autism and continues to hold regular consultations with stakeholders in aid of legislation.

Dahino also highlighted the rollout of psychoeducation initiatives, which have already begun at Pedro “Oloy” N. Roa Sr. High School.

Reacting on the special report of Councilor Jonjon Rodriguez about VAWC response mechanism, she emphasized that addressing abuse requires more than legislation.“If we only rely on laws without addressing the mindset behind abuse, we will continue to respond to cases rather than prevent them,” she said.

Following the recent celebration of Women’s Month, Dahino vowed to further advance policies and programs that protect and promote women’s rights and respond to their evolving needs. (SPE/SP)
