DOST to open 3D printing facility in NorMin to support product prototyping, student research

Cagayan de Oro City, PHILIPPINES — In a bold step toward advancing technological innovation in the region, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Northern Mindanao will officially launch the Advanced Manufacturing Center (AMCen) on August 04, 2025. As a government-led additive manufacturing hub in the region, AMCen is poised to revolutionize how local industries, startups, inventors, and students approach product development and digital manufacturing.

AMCen is managed by the DOST-Metals Industry Research and Development Center (MIRDC), in collaboration with the Industrial Technology Development Institute (ITDI). It serves as a national hub for 3D printing, rapid prototyping, reverse engineering, and materials research—bringing cutting-edge services to the doorsteps of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), academic institutions, and local communities.

Services offered by AMCen include 3D modelling and simulation, 3D printing, materials testing, and technical training—all essential tools to modernize local manufacturing capabilities. The center also provides direct support to startups and inventors looking to prototype new ideas without needing expensive equipment.

AMCen’s technologies are not limited to industrial applications. The center is also expected to support breakthroughs in agriculture, healthcare, and disaster preparedness. From custom irrigation parts for farmers to prosthetic limbs and anatomical models for medical institutions, AMCen offers scalable and customizable solutions tailored to regional needs.

Notable examples of products already developed in AMCen’s national network include 3D-printed satellite parts, assistive medical devices, and even cultural pieces like a 12.5-foot statue of Dr. José Rizal.

AMCen’s presence in Northern Mindanao will mark a significant milestone in the decentralization of high-end manufacturing technologies. By establishing AMCen in the region, DOST is making advanced manufacturing tools and services more accessible, enabling local innovators and students to develop products more quickly, enhance production efficiency, and reduce dependence on imported components.

During the launch event, guests will witness live 3D printing demonstrations and will be introduced to AMCen’s 3D printing services. Technology partners and stakeholders from industry and academia will also join the celebration.

Interested individuals, inventors, students, or businesses may inquire about services or request support via the DOST Northern Mindanao Facebook page or by visiting https://amcen.dost.gov.ph. Direct inquiries can be made through [email protected] or 0917 857 9209. (Joshua Robin/DOST10)
