CDO Community Unites to Save Lives in Heroic Bloodletting Drive for Pediatric Leukemia Patients

In a powerful display of unity and compassion, the CDO community came together for a life-saving cause as JCI Kagayhaan Gold, in partnership with the SM CDO Downtown, Oro Builders Eagles Club, Oro Portal Eagles Club, JCI Macajalar 24K, JCI Cagayan de Oro, and JCI Bai Lawanen, hosted a bloodletting activity titled “Dugo at Kagitingan: Pag-asa Para sa mga Munting Mandirigma – A Bloodletting Drive.”

The event, held at the Fifth Level of SM CDO Downtown, yesterday, April 9, 2025, marked a highlight of this year’s JCI Week celebration.

The initiative was more than a typical blood drive—it became a beacon of hope for the young patients of the Leukemia Patients and Parents Organization (LeuPaPo).

With each donation, volunteers contributed not just blood, but the gift of extended life and renewed hope for children courageously battling leukemia.

“The happiness we feel is overwhelming, knowing that despite their busy schedules, people took the time to donate for the children,” said Mr. Reczel Clarabal of the Leukemia Patients and Parents Organization Inc. (LeuPaPo).

As part of the program, LeuPaPo members will be given access to the reserved blood units collected from the event, ensuring timely support during medical emergencies.

This strategic partnership reflects a shared mission: to make lifesaving resources more accessible for those who need them most.

“The activity aims not only to help our beneficiaries but also to create ripples of impact in how we conduct community projects—and to develop young leaders in Cagayan de Oro City,” said Alyssa Abigail P. Gabor, VP for International.

Beyond its health benefits, the event stood as a testament to the spirit of bayanihan—the Filipino tradition of communal unity and support.

For every donor, it was also a personal moment of self-fulfillment, knowing that their small act of kindness plays a vital role in someone’s fight for survival.

Indeed, “Dugo at Kagitingan” served as a reminder that heroism comes in many forms—and sometimes, it begins with the courage to give.
