FORMER Sen. Gregorio Honasan is expected to gather a million signatures by the end of this month and submit the collective petition before the International Criminal Court (ICC).
Honasan, who is attempting a senatorial comeback through the elections next month, voiced out his confidence in a meet and greet with local youth April 10.
The petition is for ICC to release former President Rodrigo Duterte – who is currently in jail in Netherlands – back to the country.
Honasan, together with SAGIP Rep. Rodante Marcoleta, is using an ICC window that allows non-government organizations to submit petitions on pending cases.
Honasan is confident that all signatures that they have gathered are members of the petitioning organizations.
“Before submitting the petition, we will ensure that all these signatures are authentic and verified,” Honasan told the cheering crowd at Philtown Hotel’s main hall.
Banking on his 21 years of legislative experience, Honasan is running on a platform of digitization and food security.
But at the same time, his signature campaign is gaining steam.
“Many Filipinos, both here and abroad, are calling for the return of President Duterte to the Philippines. If there are charges to face, he should be tried in his own country,” he said.
