Today, Agriculture Secretary Francisco Laurel joined the provincial government of Bukidnon for the signing of a memorandum of agreement for the Bukidnon Food Hub development projects in the province.

According to Laurel, the food hubs reinforce agriculture food networks in the province and the region, enhance market linkages, and improve the livelihood of farmers and fisherfolk. Laurel adds that the food hubs are a flagship initiative of the DA under the administration of President Marcos.

In his message, Bukidnon Governor Rogelio Neil P. Roque said that the establishment of the food hubs allow the farmers and the local government here to take a major step forward, advancing the agricultural sector of Bukidnon. “This investment will elevate our agriculture sector to new heights,” Roque said as the food hubs aim to transform food systems, shifting towards a modern and farmer-centered approach to food production.

Project benefits include reduction in logistics costs and post-harvest losses, improved market access for farmers, stabilized agricultural supply chains, generation of employment opportunities in rural areas and strengthened regional agri-based economic growth.

The P1.97 billion project will be funded primarily by the DA with potential support from LGUs, private investors and development partners.
