From the fishing village of Kabulawan in Lagonglong, Misamis Oriental, emerged a young woman whose story reflects resilience, faith, and the transformative power of education.
Regine Dablo, once a 4Ps beneficiary, is now the Local Youth Development Officer of her hometown and an inspiration for the youth of Misamis Oriental and the rest of Northern Mindanao.
Regineโs journey began in her elementary and secondary years when she excelled in academic competitionsโquiz bees, school press conferences, and contestsโearning recognition for both her town and her province.
In 2015, she represented Misamis Oriental in the Search for 4Ps Exemplary Child in Northern Mindanao. She placed second among regional finalists, but the experience gave her confidence to dream bigger.
She graduated with high honors in senior high school at Liceo de Cagayan University. Later, she pursued a degree in Bachelor of Secondary Education, Major in Mathematics, at the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP) in Cagayan de Oro City.
Supported by a DOST-SEI Scholarship, Regine consistently proved her excellence. She graduated Magna Cum Laude, Class Valedictorian, and received both the CHED UniFAST Academic Excellence Award and the CSC Honor Graduate Eligibility.
โThe DOST-SEI Scholarship not only gave me financial support,โ Regine recalled. โIt also fueled my passion for learning and innovation.โ
Regineโs college years were far from easy.
She studied during the COVID-19 pandemic, a time she described as emotionally and mentally draining.
On December 12, 2021, Typhoon Odette struck Northern Mindanao, damaging their home and her fatherโs livelihood.
A year later, on December 19, 2022, fire gutted their boarding house in Cagayan de Oro City. Regine lost all her review materials just before final exams.
โI was devastated,โ she said. โBut my friends stepped inโthey even rewrote entire notes for Calculus. Their effort was priceless, and I will always treasure it.โ
Despite the trials, Regine pushed forward.
โI never gave up because I know God is my strength and my family will never give up on me,โ she said.
Behind Regineโs achievements is a strong family foundation.
Her father, Rex, is a fisherman and once served as Treasurer of their Fisherfolks Association. He also held leadership roles in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, including District President for nine years.
Her mother, Genevieve, sold fish to support the family while also serving as a seminary teacher and president of the churchโs young womenโs group.
Together, they raised their children in a home built on faith, shared parenting, and joint decision-making. Their household became a model of balance, harmony, and respect for gender roles.
The Dablo Family, represented Misamis Oriental in the Search for Huwarang Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program in 2018. The Dablo siblings actively joined school and church activities, showing the familyโs commitment to service and community life.
From doing household chores in her fishing village to standing today as a licensed teacher and public servant, Regineโs life reflects the mission of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Programโto help families break free from the cycle of poverty.
Now, as a youth leader, Regine inspires others to value education, service, and perseverance.
Her decade-long transformation is living proof that with faith, strong family support, and government programs like 4Ps, lives can truly change for the better. DSWD 10
