Lake Agco, nestled in the heart of Kidapawan City, North Cotabato, Philippines, is a hidden gem that offers a unique blend of natural beauty and cultural significance. Situated at the foot of Mount Apo, the Philippines’ highest peak, this crater lake is a popular destination for both local and international tourists seeking relaxation and adventure.
In an interview with Datu Romeo Andot, he said that one of the most striking features of Lake Agco is its hot and cold springs. The lake’s geothermal activity creates a natural spa environment, where visitors can soak in hot sulfuric waters believed to have therapeutic properties.
Andot said the sulfuric steam from the hot springs rises dramatically from the lake, creating a mystical ambiance that feels like stepping into another world. The hot springs are complemented by nearby cold springs, providing a refreshing contrast that visitors can enjoy after a warm soak.

Johnjohn Gumayo, an accredited Tourist Guide by the local tourism office here said the area surrounding Lake Agco is lush with tropical vegetation, offering a serene environment for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle of city life.
He said the verdant landscape, combined with the cool mountain air, makes it an ideal spot for nature lovers and hikers. There are several trails around the lake and up the slopes of Mount Apo, ranging from easy walks to more challenging treks that reward adventurers with stunning views of the lake and the surrounding countryside.
Lake Agco is also a significant cultural site for the indigenous Manobo people, who have lived in the area for generations. The Manobo consider Mount Apo and its surrounding areas, including Lake Agco, as sacred. They believe that the spirits of their ancestors reside in these lands, and they conduct rituals and offer prayers at the lake to honor their heritage and seek blessings. Visitors to Lake Agco have the opportunity to learn about the rich traditions and customs of the Manobo, adding a cultural dimension to the natural experience.
