SEVERAL measures are currently implemented to fasttrack the dumping of garbage at Pagalungan engineered sanitary landfill in Cagayan de Oro City and maximize the rotation of the new garbage compactors of hired utility Standard Systems Water and Wastewater Technologies.
City local environment and natural resources officer Armen Cuenca said in an interview October 9 that due to road passage problems, it would currently take eight hours or a complete work shift for each truck to haul garbage, dump it in the landfill and return to the city.
Cuenca explained that the road leading to the landfill itself is already paved.
What the muddy and almost impassable one is the road in the inner part of the landfill where filth is currently dumped.
This one has a solution in sight already.
During an October 8 meeting with Mayor Rolando Uy, quarry operators have vowed to donate sand and gravel to even out the road for the trucks to pass.

But first, the city government has to deal with the September 18 show cause order of the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) directing it to answer why waste is being dumped beyond the lined point, why treated wastewater emits a brown-red color and why one of the leachate pipes was not connected to the impoundment pond.
Cuenca assured the public that all these problems are already addressed accordingly.
The CLENRO head is confident that they will be able to satisfy the demands of EMB 10 as laid down under Republic Act 9003 and DENR Administrative Order 2016-08.
