CAMIGUON congressional candidate Paul Rodriguez has spoken out against the spread of fake news on social media and online publications, particularly claims regarding unsettled debts and questions about his candidacy.
Rodriguez clarified that he has elevated his appeal to the Supreme Court, presenting sufficient proof of his residency.
He also emphasized that there are no cases by the bank filed against him related to any unpaid debts.
According to Rodriguez, these allegations are part of a smear campaign designed to derail his candidacy.
Recently, fabricated quote cards falsely claiming he had withdrawn from the race circulated on various social media platforms.
Additionally, an article attempting to link alleged debts to his disqualification was dismissed as black propaganda.
Members of Camiguin’s civil society have condemned the political tactics used against Rodriguez.
“Camiguin is a small island where people know each other. This kind of dirty politics is not a Camiguinon trait,” they stated. “Everyone here knows Paul Rodriguez—his family, his roots, his contributions. Anyone insisting he is not from Camiguin is likely not a true Camiguinon with deep ties to the island.”
Rodriguez’s campaign continues to gain strong local support, particularly from farmers, fisherfolk, indigenous groups, and marginalized communities who feel they have been overlooked for the past 38 years.
Paul Rodriguez is a businessman of purpose and service.
As a prominent figure in the shipping industry, Paul Rodriguez is widely recognized not only for his leadership but also for his firm commitment to corporate social responsibility.
Under his stewardship, Asian Maritime Transport Corporation (AMTC) has demonstrated this dedication through meaningful action—most notably in its continued service to the people of Camiguin.
Despite unprofitable and non-passenger operations, AMTC ensured uninterrupted transport of essential goods such as ambulances, medicines, oxygen tanks, and food supplies to the island.
This unwavering commitment during critical times stands as a testament to Rodriguez’s principle that business must serve the greater good, especially when communities are in need.
“I am still an official candidate. We are actively campaigning, and we will continue this fight while awaiting the Supreme Court’s decision,” Rodriguez affirmed.
