Davao City — First District Representative Paolo Duterte has condemned the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) for what he described as harassment against his family, following the arrival of CIDG and Special Action Force (SAF) personnel in the city.
In a statement issued Wednesday, Duterte expressed alarm over the unannounced deployment, which he said appeared to target his family. “This is nothing but harassment. Their presence in the city raises serious questions about their intent,” he said.
Duterte criticized the law enforcement units for allegedly failing to coordinate with local authorities and for creating an atmosphere of intimidation. He called on the leadership of the Philippine National Police (PNP) to clarify the operation and hold those responsible accountable.
“We respect the law, and we expect those in uniform to do the same. Using state forces to harass civilians—especially families—is unacceptable,” Duterte added.
The CIDG has yet to comment on the congressman’s accusations or provide details about the purpose of their deployment.
Local officials and residents have also raised concerns over the increased police presence and called for transparency from national authorities.
This incident comes amid simmering political tensions, with Duterte hinting at possible political motives behind the move.
