GOVERNOR Juliette Uy ordered several offices of the Provincial Capitol to inspect the Don Gregorio Pelaez Sports Complex for its planned rehabilitation.
According to Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer Fernando Vincent Dy, Governor Uy wants to make the sports complex more presentable and safer through cooperation with the local government of Cagayan de Oro.
Dy pointed out that the facilities of the sports complex pose risks to public safety, especially its roof, which contains asbestos.
He said the facilities are already old and need to be replaced to prevent accidents.
Asbestos is a type of mineral used to create fireproof materials, but it can cause cancer when inhaled.
Meanwhile, Dy added that the Provincial Government will prepare a proposal with the LGU of Cagayan de Oro to renovate and add new facilities.
The inspection on February 5, 2025 was led by the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) and the Provincial Engineering Office (PEO).
Officials of the Provincial Government expect coordination with the LGU of Cagayan de Oro so the project can begin as soon as possible.
This is one of Governor Juliette Uy’s steps to give importance to public health in order to protect people from illnesses.
Public health is a priority of Governor Uy and is one of the foundations of the BANGON strategic direction. PIO
