PBBM Calls for Urgent Improvement of Airport Facilities

MANILA – President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. directed transport agencies to prioritize the enhancement of the country’s airport facilities and services as part of the government’s efforts to boost tourism.

Marcos issues the directive during a Cabinet meeting in Malacañang in Manila Tuesday morning.

“We have directed our transportation agencies to prioritize the enhancement of our airport facilities,” Marcos said in a social media post.

“Our goals are — to make the traveler experience more efficient and comfortable, to boost tourism and to drive significant economic growth for the country,” he added.

The meeting was attended by Finance Secretary Ralph Recto, Socioeconomic Planning Secretary Arsenio Balisacan, Budget Secretary Amenah Pangdandaman, Energy Secretary Raphael Lotilla, Housing Secretary Jerry Acuzar, Public Works and Highways Secretary Manuel Bonoan, Trade Secretary Alfredo Pascual, and Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista.

Marcos has pledged to improve the operations of the country’s major airports, particularly the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Pasay and Parañaque, to ensure ease of travel and strengthen the country’s tourism sector.

Last March, the President witnessed the signing of the PHP170.6-billion public-private partnership (PPP) modernization agreement between the government and the San Miguel Corporation-led consortium for the rehabilitation of NAIA. (PNA)
