MORE than 300 overseas Filipino workers have received assistance from the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) 10 during the Awarding of Welfare and Reintegration Services Ceremony held September 9.
DMW Undersecretary Bernard Olalia expressed that their office is always ready to extend help to all OFWs who are in need whether documented or not.
Olalia emphasized that fighting illegal recruitment and trafficking is an important program of their office.
He also shared that there are anti-illegal recruitment programs that they are implementing to make sure that Filipinos who are planning to work abroad know their rights and they can be protected.
Olalia shared that the overseas employment certificate is a document that shows an OFW had gone through the process required for being a documented and regular OFW.
He also said that regular OFWs are fully protected since their office vetted their employment contract and confirmed the existence of the job offered and the employer is existing and not blacklisted.
As beneficiary of the Sa Pinas, Ikaw ang Ma’am at Sir program of DMW, Jerelyn Aguirre – a licensed techer and former OFW – said the program had helped her and his husband in landing a permanent position in DepEd.
She also expressed gratitude to DMW since the financial assistance she had received greatly helped her in buying materials for teaching which would not only benefit her but her learners as well.
Meanwhile to intensify their campaign against illegal recruiter, DMW 10 director Emmanuel Toledo shares that they are conducting anti-illegal recruitment seminars at the barangay level so that residents will be empowered and able to identify indicators of illegal recruitment.
