The Provincial Government launched the P20 Rice Project, also known as the “Benteng Bigas, Meron Na!” program, through a simultaneous rollout activity in Misamis Oriental.
Thousands of individuals benefited from the activity, which was conducted in all Local Government Units (LGUs) in the first and second districts of the province on March 6, 2026. Each beneficiary received five kilograms of rice during the event.
The P20 Rice Project is a national program of the current administration aimed at helping the public by selling rice at 20 pesos per kilogram.
The program prioritizes individuals and families classified as the “poorest of the poor.” Each beneficiary is allowed to purchase up to 30 kilograms of rice per month.
According to Mar Pedarios, one of the beneficiaries, the program is a big help for their daily needs because it lessens the burden of the high price of rice.
The National Food Authority (NFA) Region 10 assured the public that the rice distributed through the program is of good quality, as it undergoes strict monitoring. They added that the rice is also fresh, since it comes from local farmers in the region.
The Provincial Agriculture Office (PAGRO) expects to conduct rollout activities for the P20 Rice Project every two weeks in barangays across municipalities in the province. They emphasized that beneficiaries must present a valid ID to prevent abuse in purchasing the rice.
The activity was led by the Provincial Government in coordination with the Department of Agriculture (DA) Region 10, NFA, Food Terminal Incorporated (FTI), and the Local Chief Executives (LCEs) of municipalities and cities in Misamis Oriental.
The program supports the goal of Governor Juliette T. Uy to assist the people of the province by giving them the opportunity to buy more affordable rice. It is also aligned with her implementation of the BANGON strategic agenda. PIO
