NOMINEES of Laang Kawal partylist promised that they will make themselves marginalized after their first term if elected.
Unique to the Philippine House of Representatives, the partylist system allocates congressional seats for the marginalized sector. And Laang Kawal represents the reservists.
In a press conference January 17 in Cagayan de Oro City, Laang Kawal partylist first nominee Jaime Roberto Almario said that all the bills that they will file are aimed to uplift the reservists.
With all the four nominees of Laang Kawal as reservists representing across multiple branches, Almario lamented that the 1.6 million reservists in the country do not have adequate logistical support. “
They do not even have firearms. Our country’s reserve force needs to be equipped and sustained. They are our homeland frontliners,” he said.
In a hypothetical event that China invades Taiwan, most of the active military forces of the country will be deployed to northern Luzon as a deterrent and the regular military bases and camps will be filled with reservists.
“We are also the only partylist that is geared to protecting our territory. I believe that we can best represent the country’s concerns in Congress,” Almario said.
