KBP honors exemplary Oro broadcasters

BROADCASTERS and radio stations alike from Cagayan de Oro were awarded during the 2nd KBP Golden Friendship Awards.

A local version of the prestigious KBP Golden Dove Awards, the KBP Golden Friendship Awards will undoubtedly be the legacy of KBP Cagayan de Oro chapter chairman Dr. Ronnie Waniwan.

The name alludes to the national awards as well as Cagayan de Oro being the City of Golden Friendship.

Its second edition was held April 26 at Dynasty Court Hotel and Restaurant in Cagayan de Oro City.

Following are the winners: Magnum Radyo’s Angie Alsado (best reporter); Annaliza Reyes and Rey Maraunay of DXCC’s Derecho Balitang Metro CDO (outstanding newscast program and host); Magnum 45’s Jun Albino and Ailyn Acorin (best public affairs program and host); outstanding public service program and host Angie Alsado; Heart FM’s Music from the Heart (outstanding FM disc jockey); Talk Zone’s Chyrel Cariaga (outstanding magazine program and host); Magnum Rapido’s Manny Agustero (best and fearless commentator of the year); DXCC (best AM station); Heart FM (best FM); Magnum Radyo’s Joel Jacobo (broadcaster of the year); and Lampornas in Sight’s Ronnie Waniwan (best program of the year).

The judges for these awards were Oro Chamber president Almarco Brito, former Oro Chamber president Raymund Talimio, Atty. Gregorio Miguel Pallugna, Dean Gerry Cano and Dr. Salvador dela Pena (Liceo de Cagayan University College of Arts and Sciences dean).

The awards were part of the Broadcasters Month celebration this April after it was declared as such by then President Fidel Ramos in 1995 via Proclamation No. 557.

Outreaches were also held this month on two separate occasions – 30 sacks of rice and groceries were handed out to Leupapo and 250 food packs to trisikad drivers in barangay Macabalan.

“To my fellow broadcasters, it is my earnest hope that we continue to support one another regardless of the threats we face or the cost we may bear,” Waniwan said. “Let us remain steadfast in combating fake news, dismantling troll-driven disinformation and opposing any attempts to silence the free and responsible press.”
