Senator Imee Marcos has fired back at critics accusing her of using the Senate for political gain, while throwing shade at Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero, whom she labeled ambisyoso—a Filipino term for someone overly ambitious.
In an interview with reporters, Marcos flatly denied that her recent actions in the Senate were politically motivated, insisting that her legislative initiatives and investigations are aimed at promoting transparency and good governance.
“I’m not using the Senate for politics,” Marcos said. “If we’re talking about ambition, there are people far more ambitious than me. Maybe that label fits others better.”
Pressed further, the senator singled out Escudero, suggesting he fits the description of someone with political ambition. While she stopped short of elaborating, the comment has sparked speculation about growing tension between the two lawmakers.
The remark comes at a time when political observers are closely watching the dynamics within the Senate, as early signs of maneuvering for the 2028 elections begin to surface. Both Marcos and Escudero are seen as potential contenders for higher office, adding weight to their recent public exchanges.
Despite the jab, Marcos maintained that her focus remains on legislative work. She denied coordinating her moves with President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., emphasizing that her role in the Senate is independent of her brother’s administration.
Escudero has yet to issue a public response to Marcos’ statement.
As internal friction appears to simmer, some Senate insiders say the situation may affect the chamber’s leadership structure or trigger shifts in committee chairmanships if tensions continue to build.
