ERLQUIN Lim’s reputation as the most hands-on barangay chairman in this city was revealed to the public only yesterday.
A humble public servant who rose from the ranks after the death of his father when he was barangay chairman, the then Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) chairman was elevated to barangay kagawad and finally as chairman in 2018 when one of the kagawads himself died.
Prior to being the barangay chairman, Lim was already active in civic organizations all over the city such as the Free and Accepted Masons of the Philippines and The Fraternal Order of Eagles (Philippine Eagles).
But it was only yesterday when the magnitude of Lim’s hands-on performance as barangay chairman was revealed.
During a City Hall radio show with city information officer Jade Adecer and mayoral spokesperson Jann Gullmore Actub, Lim told the hosts that he himself drives the barangay’s garbage collection vehicle to the sanitary landfill in barangay Pagalungan when they discover that Standard Systemn failed to clean the trash the previous night.
“Every morning, kami sa barangay mag-roving g’yud mi kung nakuha na ba ang mga basura the previous night. Sanitation is a priority in our barangay,” Lim said.
The statement was definitely off-script because Lim was merely asked – to set the tone of the program – on how his morning routine was.
But public service was already instant on his mind.
“Together with my focal persons on cleanliness and health, we are roving the whole barangay. Ug kung amo ma-discover nga wala makolekta ang basura pagka-gabii, manawag dayon ko sa CLENRO. Pero dili nako maghulat sa ila. Ako mismo ang mo-drive sa among sakyanan paingon sa landfill,” he said.
Lim also revealed that he himself drives the barangay’s vehicle during motorcades that Barangay 9 participates in.
This only shows how hands-on a barangay chairman he is. No wonder he was chosen as the current secretary of the Liga ng mga Barangay in Cagayan de Oro.
