DOST XI, DAR, and DTI Collaborate to Establish Tableya Processing Facility in Davao Occidental

Highlighting collaborative efforts, the Department of Science and Technology Region XI (DOST XI), alongside the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Davao Occidental inked a significant Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for the establishment of a Tableya Processing Facility for the Lagumit Tibangkonao Farmers Marketing Cooperative (LATIFAMCO) in Brgy. Lagumit, Malita, Davao Occidental.

The MOA underscores a shared commitment to bolstering local agricultural initiatives and uplifting farming communities in the Region. The collaboration aims to fortify sustainable agricultural practices while fostering economic empowerment among farmers.

The initiative builds upon existing programs geared towards the development of Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Organizations (ARBOs), notably the Village-level Farm-focused Enterprise Development program spearheaded by DAR. This comprehensive program, supported by various national government agencies, is geared towards enhancing the capacity of local farmers and promoting self-sufficiency in agricultural production.

At the heart of the collaboration is the establishment of a Tableya Processing Facility, which holds significant potential for LATIFAMCO and its members. Tableya, a traditional Filipino cocoa tablet, represents a niche product with a growing market both domestically and internationally. Through the facility, LATIFAMCO aims to capitalize on this demand while ensuring the quality and authenticity of their offerings.

Regional Director of DOST XI, Dr. Anthony Sales, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership and its potential impact to the community.

“By leveraging our collective expertise and resources and harnessing Science and Technology, we can drive meaningful change and create opportunities for growth for our grassroots communities,” Dr. Sales said.

As the project moves forward, stakeholders remain optimistic about its potential to create a ripple effect of positive change, not only within LATIFAMCO but across the broader agricultural landscape of the region. Through concerted efforts and meaningful collaborations, DOST XI, DAR, and DTI are paving the way for a brighter future for farmers and communities alike (vener Zygmond Rebuelta).
