DEPDev-X prepares for another ‘new normal’

AMID evolving economic disruptions, the region is adopting a proactive and forward-looking strategy anchored on the Updated Northern Mindanao Regional Development Plan 2023–2028.

DEPDev-X Regional Director Mylah Faye Aurora B. Carino, CESO III emphasized Northern Mindanao’s preparedness for a “new normal” shaped by geopolitical tensions, energy constraints and climate-related shocks.

Carino said this during a news conference held April 23 at N Hotel in Cagayan de Oro City.

Strategic priorities include revitalizing the agriculture sector, strengthening manufacturing, enhancing energy security and advancing climate and economic resilience through targeted and adaptive interventions.

Northern Mindanao posted 4.9 percent economic growth in 2025, easing from 6.1 percent in 2024 yet remaining above the national rate of 4.4 percent.

The region ranked seventh among 18 regions, with total output sustaining above PHP1 trillion—underscoring its continued role as a key contributor to the national economy.

Growth remained services-driven, while agriculture recorded modest gains despite persistent climate-related pressures.

The industry sector, however, decelerated due to a contraction in public construction.

Anchored on RDC-X’s MAS ASENSO Agenda, the region continues to advance a whole-of-society approach to a “new normal,” mobilizing government, the private sector, and communities in strengthening resilience and building a more future-ready economy. These collective efforts aim to secure a matatag, maginhawa, at panatag na buhay for all people of Northern Mindanao. DEPDEV 10
