A very successful Women’s Congress was held for the first time, spearheaded by the City Inter-Agency Committee Against Trafficking and Violence Against Women and their Children (CIACAT-VAWC), bringing together various women’s sectors in the city on Thursday, April 23.
During the congress, a lecture-seminar was conducted on Anti-Illegal Recruitment, Online Sexual Abuse or Exploitation of Children (OSAEC), Child Sexual Abuse or Exploitation Materials (CSAEM), Digital Threats, the Safe Spaces Act, and the Board of Claims.
Women and Children Protection Desk (WCPD) officers from the city’s police stations were also recognized, while a women’s organization forum was held as part of the event.
Among those who participated were Oro Women, the Federation of Barangay Women Development Committee Cagayan de Oro City, Inc. (FBWDC-CDOC, Inc.), Kalipunan ng Liping Pilipina (KALIPI), Solo Parents, Violence Against Women and their Children (VAWC) Desk Workers, the Persons with Disabilities sector, Indigenous Peoples sector, and Senior Citizens sector.
The congress was an initiative of CIACAT-VAWC and was led by the City Gender and Development Office, City Social Welfare and Development Department, Streetlight Organization, Committee on Women and Family Relations Chairperson City Councilor Desiree Dahino, Vice Chairperson City Councilor Gigi Go, and the Cagayan de Oro City Justice Zone.
Its goal is to gather women together, give them the opportunity to meet one another, and help them learn more about their rights. CIO
