HIGHLIGHTING the government’s programs and services to boost the agricultural sector, DA-10, through Regional Executive Director Jose Apollo Pacamalan, graced the Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas on June 18, here.
He listed the department’s primary initiatives, such as the rice program, which distributed 535,427 kg to 26,976 rice farmers; high-value crops; corn, achieving a 144.27% sufficiency level in the region; livestock, placing the region among the top 5 regions for major commodities; organic agriculture; the PRDP; and projects in partnership with the Korean government.
“We have to make sure that as we develop the agricultural industry with a value chain approach, we see to it that there is a balance in terms of what we get. At the same time, ensuring that our farmers will benefit most from it,” Pacamalan said.
Pacamalan added that the DA-10’s Rice Program has delivered a total of 908,535 kilograms of hybrid seeds in the region.
Of which, 535,427 kilograms were successfully distributed, benefiting 26,976 rice farmers. Full distribution of the remaining seeds is expected during the first quarter of CY 2024.
Also, a total of 15.7 million kilograms of inorganic fertilizers were delivered.
