STATEMENT OF THE CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY WATER DISTRICT:
“This is the latest information received from our bulk water supplier, COBI, regarding the ongoing low-flow water delivery that started early this year.
Last January 2, 2026, heavy rains and flooding damaged both COBI’s Pualas and Salimbalan intake facilities, including their wet ponds.
The Pualas Intake, which required fewer repairs, was restored earlier and was completed on January 6, 2026. Because the West Area and a portion of the East Area are supplied by the Pualas facility, normal bulk water delivery to the West has already resumed.
However, the Salimbalan Intake, which supplies most of the East Area, suffered heavier damage and requires more extensive repairs. As of this update, COBI reports that rehabilitation is about 50% complete, resulting in only half of the normal water supply being delivered to the East Area. COBI has stated that it is doing its best to further increase bulk water delivery to the East as repairs continue.
In response, COWD continues to maximize production from its own underground wells and is maintaining 24-hour water tanker operations, especially for the most affected areas in the East.”
