CDO launches first barangay-based rabies vaccination center

FOR the first time under the administration of Mayor Rolando “Klarex” Uy, the city has launched the Barangay Rabies Vaccination Center for dogs and cats in Barangay Agusan, which also serves as the pilot barangay for this program.

City Veterinarian Dr. Helen Ann Tacandong explained that this initiative was implemented through the City Veterinary Office, with the support of the Barangay Agusan Council led by Barangay Chairman Andrew Melliza, who allocated space in the barangay hall to serve as the vaccination center.

According to Dr. Tacandong, rabies vaccinations for dogs and cats will be conducted every Monday in Barangay Agusan by their deputized vaccinators, under the supervision of personnel from the City Veterinary Office.

Barangay Agusan will also accommodate residents from neighboring barangays who wish to have their dogs and cats vaccinated.

Dr. Tacandong added that Barangay Agusan was chosen as the pilot barangay for this program, and if the results are favorable, the same will be implemented in other barangays.

It can be recalled that the City Veterinary Office previously conducted training to deputize vaccinators from major barangays to assist in similar activities of the City Vet, particularly during mass vaccination drives for dogs and cats. (ALR/CIO/Photos from City Veterinary Office)
