Bicol police seize P28.4-M drugs, arrest 133

In February of this year, the Police Regional Office in Bicol (PRO5) conducted 126 drug operations across the region, resulting in the arrest of 133 individuals involved in drug-related activities. Lt. Col. Malu Calubaquib, PRO5 spokesperson, reported the seizure of illegal drugs valued at PHP28.4 million during these operations. The confiscated substances included 17.2 kilograms of marijuana and 3.8 kilograms of shabu.

Calubaquib disclosed that 218 cases were filed against the apprehended drug offenders, emphasizing PRO5’s dedication to upholding the law and fostering a drug-free environment within society.

Among all the provinces, Camarines Norte recorded the highest amount of seized drugs at PHP15.8 million; followed by Camarines Sur, PHP5.4 million; Albay, PHP3.19 million; Naga City, PHP1.98 million; Masbate, PHP1.05 million; Sorsogon, PHP901,095. and Catanduanes, PHP1,700.

In a statement, PRO5 Regional Director Brig. Gen. Andre Dizon said all operations adhere strictly to legal protocols and regulations, ensuring that aggressive enforcement is within the bounds of the law.

He said aside from law enforcement and operations, there must be robust support for reform, awareness, and education programs.

“The unit will intensify its efforts to engage with schools, barangays, and establishments, promoting dialogue and implementing drug education programs,” he added. (PNA)
