Through a joint operation of the Provincial Task Force on Environment and Peace and Order under the Provincial Local Environment and Natural Resources Office (PLENRO), together with Opol PNP, RMFB personnel, 2nd PMFC personnel, and the Provincial Intelligence Unit (PIU).
Eight individuals were arrested for illegal mining activities in Zone 1, Barangay Limonda, Opol, Misamis Oriental.
The arrested suspects, identified by their aliases, are:
Jhoven, 40 years old, from Agusan del Sur
Joselito, 32 years old, from Davao de Oro
Raniel, 23 years old, from Lanao del Sur
Joselito, 49 years old, from Davao de Oro
Riszand, 35 years old, from Opol, Misamis Oriental
Roel, 45 years old, from Davao de Oro
Eduard, 37 years old, from Bukidnon
Jimmy (Retired PNP), 60 years old, from Cagayan de Oro City
Seized during the operation were various illegal equipment and 379 suspected mineral ores.
The recovered and confiscated items, along with the arrested individuals, were brought to the Opol Municipal Police Station.
It is worth noting that one of Governor Juliette Uy’s advocacies is the protection of the environment and the suppression of illegal mining in the province.
Therefore, she has given strict orders to the PLENRO to apprehend those who continue to engage in illegal mining in order to protect the environment.
