CAGAYAN de Oro City first district Rep. Lordan Suan has filed a bill institutionalizing free wake for deceased indigents.
With the House of Representatives now in recess, House Bill 7417 is expected to be refiled in the next Congress as Suan is looking forward to his reelection.
Suan reported this March 3 during the inauguration of a wake facility in barangay Mambuaya.
Suan said the wake facility could be used by his constituents in the vicinity as well as neighboring barangays who are indigents.
Suan revealed that his congressional office intends to construct more facilities by barangay clusters.
This is the second facility that was constructed under Suan’s budgetary discretion.
The first one is located in Bulua and was already turned over to the barangay more than a year ago.
The two-storey edifice in Mambuaya costs P5 million and consists of two main rooms, two pantries, two toilets, a storage room, an office and a porch.
