District 3870 Kicks Off Rotary Year with “YAKAP” Project

Promoting Mental Health and Well-Being of Mothers and Children Rotary Club of Golden Friendship joins in advancing one of Rotary’s key areas of focus: Maternal and Child Health  Cagayan de Oro City, Philippines — July 1,2025 – As Rotary International marks the beginning of Rotary Year 2025–2026 with the global theme “Unite for Good,” Rotary District 3870 officially launches YAKAP—a district-wide initiative focused on advancing the mental health and well-being of mothers and children.

This kick-off project aims to address the growing emotional and psychological challenges faced by families, especially mothers and children, in today’s fast-changing world. The program aligns with Rotary’s seven areas of focus, particularly Maternal and Child Health, and serves as a call to action for clubs to prioritize community-based mental health support.

The Rotary Club of Golden Friendship, a proud member of District 3870, is actively participating in this initiative through planned activities such as: • Mental health awareness campaigns for mothers and caregivers • Educational workshops focused on emotional support for children • Access to counseling referrals and expert-led sessions in partnership with local health professionals • Community dialogues to promote understanding and reduce stigma around mental health.

“The mental health of a mother affects the entire household, and the emotional well-being of a child shapes our future society,” said Haidee Rodriguez, President of Rotary Club of Golden Friendship. “Through YAKAP we are taking a united stand to make mental wellness a shared community priority.”

The project reflects the heart of this Rotary Year’s global theme—“Unite for Good”—by creating compassionate and sustainable impact where it matters most: in families, homes, and the lives of those often overlooked.  District 3870 Governor Marlowe c. Selecios, emphasized, “YAKAP is not just a project—it’s a movement to protect and uplift the unseen battles that mothers and children face.

When we invest in their mental well-being, we are investing in peace, resilience, and a stronger future for our communities.”  The Rotary Club of Golden Friendship and the rest of District 3870 invite stakeholders, mental health advocates, and community leaders to support and take part in this transformative initiative.  For media inquiries or collaboration opportunities,
