The PHIVIDEC Industrial Authority (PHIVIDEC IA) and the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) officially inaugurated the Macajalar Bay Vessel Traffic Management System (VTMS) on August 5, 2026, at the PHIVIDEC Industrial Estate in Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental.
The new system is designed to enhance vessel monitoring, navigational safety, and traffic management within Macajalar Bay, a key shipping corridor serving the Mindanao Container Terminal (MCT) and Northern Mindanao’s growing logistics sector.
PHIVIDEC IA Administrator and CEO Atty. Joseph Donato J. Bernedo said the VTMS represents more than a technological upgrade, describing it as an investment in maritime safety, security, operational efficiency, and investor confidence.
Officials said the project is expected to improve port operations, strengthen regional trade, and support the continued modernization and global competitiveness of Northern Mindanao’s maritime industry.
