PAGATPAT, Cagayan de Oro City chairman Achilles Babaran has expressed apprehension over the erection of a so-called garbage transfer station in his barangay.
The establishment of a transfer station was instantly decided by Standard Systems Water & Wastewater Technologies to fasttrack the collection of garbage downtown upon learning that queuing of compactors leading to the Pagalungan landfill got delayed due to mud.
The transfer station was located inside Standard Systems’ 3,000 square-meter vehicle depot in Pagatpat, according to Babaran.
The transfer station operation was only done for a day last October 6 because the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) immediately put a lid on it.
In his October 8 cease and desist order, EMB 10 director Reynaldo Digamo stated that the operation of transfer station did not have authorization from his office.
But Babaran wished that the operation stoppage would be permanent since Standard Systems’ depot is located only 20 meters from residential structures.
“Nanaghan ang langaw sa among lugar. Delikado sa among panglawas. Dili ug dili g’yud mi mosugot nga magpadayon nang transfer station nila,” he said.
