POLICE in Lanao del Norte seized smuggled cigarettes amounting to PHP2.36 million past midnight Sunday.
The Lanao del Norte Police Provincial Office and Kauswagan Municipal Police Station received a call about 1:40 a.m. about two vehicles heading toward Barangay Paiton in Kauswagan town, according to a news release.
Together with the 1005th Regional Mobile Force Battalion, police officers found the abandoned vehicles with 2,950 reams of suspected smuggled cigarettes.
The items and the vehicles were turned over to the municipal police station.
“We will hold those involved in the illegal trade accountable,” Police Regional Office-Northern Mindanao Director Brig. Gen. Nestor Babagay said.
The police also asked the public to report suspicious activities as timely information can assist in preventing illegal activities and protecting communities. (With a report from Nef Luczon/PNA)
