Oro joins 83rd Araw ng Kagitingan Celebration

Cagayan de Oro City joins the national celebration of the 83rd Araw ng Kagitingan today which also kicks off Philippine Veterans Week 2025.


The ceremony kicks off at 7:00AM with the Philippine National Anthem by the 4th Infantry Division, Philippine Army to me immediately followed with the Executive Wreath Laying led by City Mayor Rolando “Klarex” A. Uy and 4ID Commander MGen. Michele B. Anayron Jr. and the traditional 21 Gun Salute and the playing of taps by the 4ID.


“The City Government of Cagayan de Oro joins the entire Filipino Nation in paying tribute and honor to our fallen heroes who bravely and courageously fought for our freedom and independence as we commemorate the 83rd Araw ng Kagitingan (Day of Valor),” Mayor Uy said earlier in his message posted in the city’s official social media.


The Cagayan de Oro City Chorale follows with the singing of the Doxology, followed by the Welcome Remarks to be rendered by City Vice Mayor Jocelyn “Bebot” B. Rodriguez, and another musical rendition by the same chorale.


Mayor Uy next delivers his Message to be followed by the mass singing of the Cagayan de Oro March to be led by the CDO City Choral before the recessional by the 4ID band.
The morning’s rites conclude with the mass wreath laying by everyone present.


The formal Philippine Veterans Week Proper kicked off on April 5 with the Sunrise Ceremony, followed by the Wreath-Laying Ceremony at the Libingan ng Mga Bayani at Taguig City, and later the Review in Honor of the Veterans at the Hunters ROTC Guerrilla Field, Philippine Army Headquarters, at Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City.


The Araw ng Kagitingan rites kick off at 8AM at the Mount Samat National Shrine in Pilar, Bataan; followed a day later by the Joint Tribute to All Filipino Heroes and Paggunita sa Capas at the same venue, and concludes with the Sunset Ceremony on April 11, 5PM at the Libingan ng mga Bayani at Taguig City.


Philippines Veterans Week 2025 already held events prior to today as early as January 27 with the US Congressional Gold Medal Awarding Ceremony at Camp Aguinaldo, the International Commemorative Conference “War & Memory: 80 Years After” celebrating the 80th Anniversary of World War II, DepEd and Veterans Federation of the Philippines (VFP) Philippine Veterans Week Contests this March 2025, Philippine Veterans Bank Freedom March on March 1-2, a Medical Mission for the Filipino Veterans Community of the Province of Laguna on March 15, Meet and Greet with Veterans on March 24, Film Showing of “Tagumpay: Ang Imahe ng mga Beteranong at Bayaning Pilipino noong Digmaang Pasipiko” on March 26, Philippine Veterans Week 2025 concludes with the Face of Valor Exhibit at the University of Sto. Tomas on April 23-30.
