New survey shows Suan leading versus KapKik

IN a decisive show of support, incumbent Congressman Lordan Suan remains the overwhelming favorite for the first district congressional race in Cagayan de Oro City, according to the latest ‘Boses ng Bayan’ survey by RPMD Foundation Inc. (RPMD). With an impressive 70% voter preference, Cong. Suan solidifies his stronghold in the district, leaving his rival, Barangay Chairman and former Vice Mayor Joaquin “Kikang” Uy, trailing far behind with just 26%.

The independent and non-commissioned survey underscores Cong. Suan’s sustained popularity is attributed to his exemplary performance as the district’s Representative. Voters lauded his achievements in district representation, legislative contributions, and consistent, impactful constituent services. Many respondents compared his tenure favorably to that of former Congressman and now Mayor Klarex Uy, expressing greater satisfaction with Suan’s ability to effectively address the district’s needs.

Joaquin “Kikang” Uy, endorsed by his father, Mayor Klarex Uy, has struggled to rally the same support as his predecessor. Despite his political lineage and previous tenure as Vice Mayor, Kikang Uy’s campaign has yet to resonate with voters. Congressman Suan’s resounding victory over Kikang Uy in the last election and his continued dominance in public opinion reflect the electorate’s preference for leaders who deliver tangible results.

This is a testament to Suan’s ability to transcend traditional political loyalties and focus instead on service-driven governance. Voters have made it clear that Suan’s brand of leadership—rooted in accountability, accessibility, and effectiveness—has raised the bar for public officials in the region.

Dr. Paul Martinez, a Global Affairs Analyst and Executive Director of RPMD, emphasized the discernment of Cagayan de Oro’s voters. “The electorate in Cagayan de Oro City is among the most intelligent and critical in selecting their representatives. They demand competence, genuine service, and results from their leaders,” Martinez remarked. “The survey numbers show that Congressman Suan’s leadership has set a standard that resonates deeply with the people.”

Conducted from November 10-20, 2024, the survey engaged 1,800 respondents through random sampling and face-to-face interviews, ensuring comprehensive and representative data. With a margin of error of ±2% and a 95% confidence level, the results provide a clear snapshot of voter sentiments in the district. Respondents were asked a straightforward question: “If elections were held today, who would you vote for as District Representative?”

The overwhelming support for Suan reinforces his standing as a top-performing legislator in Northern Mindanao and signals a continued mandate from his constituents. Suan’s unwavering support as the 2025 elections approach underscores the electorate’s desire for leadership that delivers progress and meaningful change.

This survey highlights a critical narrative of voter preferences and sets the stage for a closely watched electoral contest in Cagayan de Oro’s First District. With Suan maintaining his commanding lead, the upcoming elections could serve as a benchmark for evaluating governance and performance-based leadership in the region.
