*Secretary Galvez graces the 45th Graduation Rites of MSU-General Santos
GENERAL SANTOS CITY – On July 5, 2024, amidst the sprawling grounds of Mindanao State University-General Santos (MSU-GENSAN), a momentous event unfolded as 1,902 graduates donned in maroon and gold regalia marked their transition from students to alumni. The ceremony, themed “Pursuing Excellence and Service to the Nation towards Becoming the National Peace University,” was graced by Secretary Carlito G. Galvez Jr., Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation, and Unity, who delivered an inspiring commencement address.
Secretary Galvez Jr. expressed confidence in the education imparted to the graduates, emphasizing their role as catalysts for positive change in their communities. “This university has prepared you to be instruments of positive change,” he remarked, highlighting MSU-GENSAN’s commitment to peace education as a cornerstone of their academic mission.
Chancellor JD Usman D. Aragasi echoed Secretary Galvez Jr.’s sentiments, applauding the theme for its reflection of the university’s dedication to academic excellence and its proactive stance on fostering peace and societal harmony.
President Sultan Atty Basari D. Mapupuno of the MSU System, accompanied by members of the Board of Regents led by Atty Shidik T. Abantas, MDN, joined in conferring degrees and imparting valuable insights to the graduating class.
A historic milestone was celebrated with Eden Barbiel Umadhay becoming the first female Summa Cum Laude graduate in 50 years. In her impassioned speech, Umadhay challenged outdated perceptions of women, emphasizing their resilience and significant contributions to society. “I stand here not just as Eden Barbiel Umadhay, but as a testament to the perseverance and contributions of many women who have paved the way,” she declared.
The university also garnered recognition for its academic prowess, particularly in licensure examinations conducted by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC). During the April 2024 examinations for Electronics Engineers and Technicians, MSU-GENSAN achieved notable success, producing 21 licensed electronics engineers and 27 electronics technicians.
Highlighting their commitment to excellence, MSU-GENSAN achieved a first-time takers passing rate of 67.86% and an overall passing rate of 63.64%, surpassing the national average of 42.49%. The university’s dedication to producing skilled professionals in electronics was further underscored by the impressive 84.38% passing rate for Electronics Technicians.
A senior faculty member expressed pride in MSU-GENSAN’s achievements, reaffirming its reputation as one of the top-performing educational institutions in licensure examinations.
The 2024 commencement at MSU-GENSAN not only celebrated academic achievements but also underscored the university’s pivotal role in shaping future leaders committed to excellence, peace, and national progress.
