MisOr, PMCJ to tap renewable energy opportunities

MISAMIS Oriental is tapping into the vast renewable energy potential of the province estimated at 1,214.48 MW.
Gov. Peter M. Unabia, a renewable energy practitioner, has led the push to deliver the tripling of the renewable energy by 2030.
In line with this, the provincial government signed a memorandum of understanding with the Philippine Movement for Climate Justice, USTP and the IPSEc to formalize a partnership to produce a Renewable Energy and Investment Plan and organize the Renewable Energy and Investments Summit on 2024.
The partnership will endeavor towards the formation of the Technical Working Group, the crafting of the Provincial Renewable Energy Code and the Renewable Energy Roadmap which will be opened for investments on the dates designated by the parties. 
The parties, by entering into a memorandum of understanding have the following
objectives:
A. to produce a Renewable Energy and Investment Plan of Misamis Oriental with
specific output that shall input to the drafting of a responsive Renewable Energy Code which wil ensure just compensation to the host communities thereby motivating the host communities in the protection and conservation
of natural resources potential as a renewable energy power resource;
B. to conduct for a comprehensive province-wide Local Energy Plan in Misamis Oriental, integrating the renewable energy designs as awel laid-
out standard for the competent authoities in the installation of renewable energy systems to
the local communities;
C. to capacitate localities towards a local govemment unit Renewable Energy
readiness by complementing RE plans with potential energy sources and other
environmental factors;
D. come up with guidelines that will advise concerned officials in the LGUs on
investment for Renewable Energy projects; and for their compliance to Republic Act 11285: energy efficiency and conservation act.
The partnership will endeavor towards the formation of the Technical Working Group.

For his part, Unabia committed the purchase of four air quality monitoring equipment for the purpose.
