HIGAONONS and environmental advocates in Cagayan de Oro City on Tuesday staged a prayer vigil activity at the Brgy. Dansolihon, CDO, to amplify calls for pro-people andpro-Earth energy launched on the global Earth Day.
The Cagayan de Oro City action led by Power for People Coalition (P4P) along with groups KINAIYAHAN Coalition, Hirang ng Hiraya, Mundomuna USTP, NatureCrusaders of Xavier University and DAKILA CDO, is part of a national effort across thecountry as the world marked the celebration of Earth Day with the theme: Our Power, Our Planet.
“This is a climate emergency—dili na nato ikalimod ni tungod kay gakabatian ug gakakita na natong tanan ang epekto sa climate crisis. Ang hilak sa kinaiyahan ugsa katawhan na undangon na ang exploitation sa natural resources, hilabi na sa sektor sa enerhiya na maoy naay pinaka hugaw ug makadaot na gigikanan. Paspas ang pagtrabaho karon sa ubang mga korporasyon na ginatintal ang mgasinaligang awtoridad sa kwarta without regard sa unsay mahimong epekto niini, dili lang sa kinaiyahan, pero sa atoa katawhan,” said Juris Agustin, Mindanao Coordinator for RE Development of the Center for Energy, Ecology, andDevelopment and KINAIYAHAN co-convenor.
“To establish a stronger voice [call] for climate action, importante ang partisipasyon sa mga igsoon natong lumad, hilabi na ang mga kabatan-onan, kay kitang tanan pareho rang mga konsyumer na gaka-apektohan sa pagmahal sa kuryente, mga
gapuyo sa lugar na pinaka vulnerable sa polusyon, ug, labaw sa tanan, gihimo sa Magbubuhat na tig-ariglar sa kinaiyahan sama sa pag-prayoridad niini sa mga igsoon natong Higaonon,” she added.
