THE Land Transportation Office (LTO) 10 welcomed the latest action of the city government of Cagayan de Oro in its drive against exagerratingly noisy modified mufflers of motorcycles.
In an interview February 2, LTO 10 director Nelson Manaloto maintained that any modification of motorcycles beyond what is stipulated by the manufacturer is a violation of Joint Administrative Order 2401 Section 2D.
Noisy mufflers and other unauthorized accessories would fall into this category.
Manaloto said any motorcyclist caught with modified muffler would face P5,010 in penalty plus confiscation of the item.
Earlier, the Cagayan de Oro City Government (LGU-CDO) has taken action against motorcycles and vehicles with excessively loud and illegal mufflers.
Mayor Rolando Uy has given the go-signal to a composite team composed of the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (Cocpo), Roads and Traffic Administration (RTA) and the LTO to strictly enforce regulations on noisy mufflers along the city’s roads.
This move comes after several residents raised complaints about loud and modified mufflers roaming the streets of Cagayan de Oro day and night, causing noise pollution and becoming a major public concern.
The operation is led by the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office to strengthen enforcement and penalize violators accordingly. WITH CIO REPORT
