SPI FREE Program to Energize 21 More Sitios in Tagoloan and Jasaan
Villanueva, Misamis Oriental—SPI Power Incorporated (SPI Power) has launched a new phase of its “Fostering Rural Electrification and Energization (FREE)” Program. The company has allocated PHP 16 million to bring electricity to 21 additional sitios in Tagoloan and Jasaan, Misamis Oriental. The project, which is targeted for completion this year, is expected to benefit hundreds of households in these areas.
The initiative is one of the first major projects launched by SPI Power following its recent rebranding, symbolizing the company’s continuing commitment to community development.
“This project is something we have been doing since the start of our plant operations under the Department of Energy’s ER 1-94 program,” said Dr. Carsen Evers, SPI Power’s Plant Manager.
“In our host town of Villanueva, we achieved 100% energization at the sitio level in 2021. Over the years, the program has energized 39 sitios, benefiting more than 3,400 households across Northern Mindanao. This ongoing effort remains a key part of our commitment to bringing power and opportunities to communities in need.”
SPI Power has so far earmarked PHP 113 million for the program, underscoring its role as a key partner in advancing rural electrification.
“This latest expansion reaffirms our role as a reliable partner to the communities we serve,” said SPI Power President and CEO Dirk Sohns during the project launch.
“Being a good neighbor is central to our mission at SPI Power. Through the FREE Program, we aim to bring light, opportunity, and progress to underserved areas. This project reflects our commitment to fostering meaningful and sustainable community development.”
Local officials expressed their gratitude for the initiative. Tagoloan Mayor Nadya Emano-Elipe said, “This electrification project is a significant step toward progress for our sitios. We are grateful to SPI Power and its partners for their unwavering support.”
Jasaan Mayor Redentor Jardin added, “Access to electricity transforms lives and opens doors to opportunities. We thank SPI Power and CEPALCO for making this long-awaited project a reality for our communities.”
The FREE Program continues to be one of the cornerstones of SPI Power’s corporate social responsibility efforts. It demonstrates the company’s mission of not just providing power but also empowering lives and driving positive change across Northern Mindanao.
