CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – As part of the celebration of Señor San Agustin, the local government of Cagayan de Oro, in collaboration with Circle Productions Inc., organized the KAGAY-AN Festival Marathon on August 18, 2024. The event took place at Centrio Ayala Mall, starting at 2:00 AM, and drew over 3,000 participants from different parts of the Philippines.
The marathon had four race categories to cater to different levels of runners. The longest race, the 42-kilometer Race, began at Centrio Ayala Mall, went to Zone 3 Agusan, then looped back for a second round before ending at the mall. The 21-kilometer Race also started at the mall, continued to the Agusan Overpass, and then returned. The 10-kilometer Race took participants from Centrio Ayala Mall to Nature’s Spring in Gusa and back. Ang lastly, the 5-kilometer Race, the shortest, had runners go from Centrio Ayala Mall to Tuna Republic and back.
Mr. Lander Jun O. Cutab., a City Councilor from Mambajao, Camiguin, was one of the participants. He shared his positive experience, saying, “This is the first marathon I’ve joined outside Camiguin, and I was impressed. The event was well-organized, and the registration fee was worth it because there were plenty of water stations, including Pocari, and a free meal after the run.” He also offered advice to future participants, saying, “I hope more people join next year and that there are more slots available. It’s important to prepare yourself mentally and physically to avoid accidents.”
The KAGAY-AN Festival Marathon not only promoted a healthy lifestyle but also brought the community together in celebration. With such a successful event, the festival is sure to continue growing and offering more exciting activities in the years to come. (JME/OB)
